Article XIII - REGIONAL  Boundaries and names

ARTICLE XIII:  RECOGNIZED REGIONAL (AKA state) CHAPTERS:
We, the Constitutional Cherokee, do hereby authorize the National Council of Chiefs to organize governing chapters in states where our members now live and that these states that now comprise portions of the historic homeland of the Cherokee are to be included in these organized chapters, therefore we do authorize the establishment of chapters in the following states:
Alabama, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.
To organize a state into a chapter, it must demonstrate at least one fully organized and functioning community of Cherokee descendants with a minimum membership statewide of at least 100 adult persons.
We do further recognize that and that a portion of our membership [not to exceed 25% of our total membership] may reside outside of the historic homeland, therefore we do authorize the establishment of a single chapter to serve the needs of the membership that is currently residing in the following states:
Arkansas, California, Illinois, Missouri, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Texas and the country of Mexico.
NAMES OF CHAPTERS:
All state (also known as regional) chapters are to include in their name “....chapter of the Constitutional Cherokee”.

it is understood that we need to address the particular states wherein our people reside.
Therefore, we are establishing the groundwork of organizing our existing communities in these states into "political entities" that will be able to work within these states.
These will be semi autonomous, but will fall under the guidelines, constitution and bylaws of the national organization.
These will be under the jurisdiction and governance of the national organization and will report to it when necessary.
We don't want a lot of needless committee work or needless meetings, but we are obligated to meet these standards in order to adequately care for and work with all our communities.
Therefore we have recognized the above mentioned state chapters  and we authorize them to continue to work to organize themselves appropriately and to conduct themselves as honorable Cherokees in all aspects of behavior in their respective states:
Please consult our historic map of our historic homeland for boundary information and guidance.
NOTE:  All state chapters and all sub chapters within each state chapter must include as part of their organizational documents the statement that they are incorporated under the constitution and by laws of the Constitutional Cherokee Nation
